Workflow guide

Ecommerce CSV and Marketplace Preflight Tools

Use this workflow before importing product, customer, inventory, or marketplace files. Start with platform-specific checkers when the file is for Shopify or Amazon, then use general CSV tools for cleanup, comparison, merge work, or column fixes. Check product image requirements before the final upload package is handed off.

Catch import-blocking rows and marketplace asset issues before the file is uploaded into a store or seller dashboard.

Quick checklist

  1. 1Start with the platform-specific checker when the destination is known.
  2. 2Use general CSV tools only for the supporting cleanup step.
  3. 3Check product images before treating the import package as ready.

Who this workflow is for

Ecommerce operators, marketplace sellers, catalog assistants, VAs, and small teams preparing import files for Shopify, Amazon, or other marketplace workflows.

Best fit
Catch import-blocking rows and marketplace asset issues before the file is uploaded into a store or seller dashboard.

Why this workflow matters

A Shopify product CSV has missing handles, duplicate variants, invalid prices, or image URLs that should be reviewed before import.
A customer CSV needs email, phone, consent, and duplicate checks before import.
An Amazon flat file has required field, SKU, quantity, price, variation, or image requirement risks.
Supporting CSV files need merge, diff, column cleanup, or row filtering before the platform-specific preflight pass.

Input files you need

  • Shopify product, customer, inventory, or SKU CSV exports
  • Amazon flat files, variation rows, or product image folders
  • Supporting CSV files from suppliers, marketplaces, or internal spreadsheets

Output files and reports

  • Platform-specific issue reports
  • Cleaned customer or product CSV files
  • CSV merge, diff, or cleanup outputs
  • Product image requirement reports

Before you start

  • Export a fresh copy of the source CSV before editing so failed changes can be compared.
  • Keep product image files available locally if the import references image requirements.
  • Run general cleanup only when it supports the platform import, not as a replacement for platform-specific checks.

Run the workflow

  1. 1Run Shopify Product CSV Preflight Checker or Amazon Flat File Preflight Checker when the file targets a known platform.
Open Shopify Product CSV Preflight Checker
  2. 2Run Shopify Customer CSV Import Cleaner when the import file contains customer rows.
Open Shopify Customer CSV Import Cleaner
  3. 3Use CSV Merge by Key, CSV Diff by Key, or CSV Column Cleaner for supporting supplier and cleanup work.
    Open CSV Merge by Key
  4. 4Run Amazon Image Requirements Checker or Platform Image Size Checker on product image files.
    Open Amazon Image Requirements Checker
  5. 5Download reports and cleaned files, then import manually in the destination platform.
    Open Platform Image Size Checker

Common failure points

The file opens in a spreadsheet but fails during import

Spreadsheet readability does not prove platform readiness. Required headers, duplicate identifiers, invalid numeric values, and image fields still need preflight checks.

General CSV cleanup hides platform-specific errors

A clean-looking CSV can still violate Shopify or Amazon expectations. Use the platform checker after general cleanup.

Images are checked too late

Product image problems can block marketplace readiness even when the spreadsheet rows are fixed. Check the image folder before the final handoff.

Run the platform checker before manual cleanup

Platform-specific checkers produce the most useful first report because they look for the fields and patterns that matter to the upload target. Use that report to decide which rows need spreadsheet edits.

  • Use Shopify tools for Shopify CSVs.
  • Use Amazon flat-file tools for Seller Central-style templates.
  • Keep a separate exception report for rows that need human review.

Use general CSV tools for supporting file work

Merge, diff, filter, or column-cleaning tools are useful when supplier files, internal exports, or marketplace files need preparation before the final platform pass.

  • Diff by SKU or key before overwriting data.
  • Clean columns before mapping data into a platform template.
  • Merge only after duplicate keys have been reviewed.

Check images as part of the import package

Marketplace imports often include image references or image handoff work. Run image requirement checks on the actual local files planned for upload or marketplace listing work.

  • Check product image dimensions and file types.
  • Flag transparency or background risk before final handoff.
  • Re-run the image check after resizing or padding.

Sample outputs to expect

Import issue report

A row-level report for missing fields, duplicate identifiers, invalid values, or platform-specific upload risks.

Cleaned CSV handoff

A downloadable CSV that can be reviewed before manual import into the destination platform.

Product image report

A file-by-file image readiness report for marketplace or product-page upload work.

Checks performed

  • Required product, customer, SKU, quantity, price, and image fields
  • Duplicate SKUs, duplicate customer records, invalid emails, and malformed rows
  • Amazon flat-file and variation upload risks
  • Marketplace product image dimensions, type, transparency, and zoom readiness
  • Supporting CSV merge, diff, and column cleanup issues

Limits and boundaries

  • Does not import data into Shopify, Amazon, or any marketplace.
  • Does not connect to seller accounts or store admin accounts.
  • Does not guarantee acceptance for account-specific or category-specific platform rules.

Tools in this workflow

FAQ

Does this connect to Shopify or Amazon?

No. The tools prepare files locally and produce reports or downloads. You still import files manually through the destination platform.

Should I use general CSV tools or platform-specific tools first?

Use the platform-specific checker first when the destination is known. Use general CSV tools for supporting merge, diff, filter, or column cleanup work.

Can these checks guarantee a marketplace import will pass?

No. They catch common visible file and image risks, but account-specific, category-specific, or live platform rules can still apply.
